If you couldn’t make it to the second Alexa Meetup in Sydney, we’ve captured some of the action here.

It was a packed house on the night, with close to 80 Alexa Enthusiasts filling out the great space that OFX had arranged for us. Thanks to OFX for the drinks and delicious pizza that were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in the room!

Our first speaker, from Amazon, chatted about Lex, Polly and Rekognition, as well as demoed an Alexa skill.  To get a sense of can be done using Amazon Polly and Amazon Lex, check out Amazon’s cool project video – Pollexy Video.

We then heard from Dev Diner‘s Patrick Catanzariti, who presented Building for Alexa — the easy/fast way.  Getting started with a new platform like Alexa can be daunting, so PatCat explained how you can get started with a prototype quickly and easily.

Our final speaker was Eric Favre from Octo Technology, who taught us how to safely deploy applications to production by voice control with “Houston.”

After an evening hearing about all of these awesome Alexa projects, we couldnt help but get excited about what’s to come in this space.  As Malcolm Duncanson (Founder of Aibiliti) notes, Alexa is making a huge impact in the US and the UK. We see voice driven applications as the next major shift in technology.” Aibiliti and Cloudten are currently developing Alexa skills for customers to augment their existing digital presence.
